RyanT is correct. You guys are speaking of "The Sleeper Berth Provision" for interstate truck drivers, not bus drivers. Bus drivers do not use the 11/14 HOS Rules. Info was updated but not changed regarding this provision by FMCSA as of 14 Dec 2014. The regs can be seen at:https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/hours-service/summary-hours-service-regulations Its use is not common practice because you must watch your calculations, but it is a viable option when you are low on hours & want to make it to your destination, legally. (8 in SB .....drive...then "2" Off Duty, SB or 1SB-1OD/or vice versa) or ("2" OD, SB or 1SB-1OD/or vice versa ....drive...then 8 SB). Hours before and after the 1st rest period must not exceed 11 Hours. Michael A. Garcia, Safety Consultant USDOT-FMCSA (Ret) DOT Rescue Laredo, TX
