    25 seconds to open

I have a Dell laptop, Intel dual core 2.16ghz, 2.17ghz, T3400 with 4 gig of ram running Vista 64. Normal open time is 25 seconds from double click to open program. Is this normal? The program is new so no large database needs to open. As the database grow will I see boot times increase?

That seems slow for that much horsepower, but computers vary a LOT based on how old they are, how many tasks are loading at start-up of the PC, coming out of sleep mode, etc.

Try using Sleep instead of Hibernate, if that's an issue.

You might also try running the software on another PC if you have access to one and see if it performs similarly.

If you don't use GPS, a big part of our start-up time is reading and sorting 70,000+ cities, so we might be able to trim that file back as a possible step.

I can live with 25 sec, just hope that as database increases in size, startup doesn't increase. I am extremely computer literate, so I do house cleaning every week. Nothing running that would slow the program down, no screen savers, no hibernate, run regedit weekly to clean unwanted files from registry, defrag and disk cleanup also.

Nothing running in background, task manager has nothing taking ram away, do defrag, disk cleanup and regedit weekly. When I first got the trial version, opened within 10 sec. Nothing has been added since download of the trial version. Not sure why the slowdown. During load up of program, ram is getting hit pretty hard but immediately after completion of load up, ram usage goes to almost zero. Hope this helps.

The trial and real software should behave identically because they are identical... same .exe, same data file, etc. There's just one flag that notes "purchased" that's different but all else is the same.

I'll check with the other technicians and see if they've had similar reports of performance droppoing after purchase, but nothing obvious comes to mind. Keep an eye on it and let us know if you see anything odd.

I can open the program which takes about 25 sec, close program and reopen immediately , same start up time. Watched ram and cpu usage in task manager, cpu usage maxes at 16% . memory to 41 % and then immediately drop off after initial startup. This is not a big problem for me, just wondering why start time is so long. As a comparison, Excel takes less than 7 sec to load, Word about the same, Access 9 sec. Hope all this helps.

Do you use the GPS features? If not we could try trimming down that file and seeing if it speeds things up... we're parsing thousands of cities and building a geo-map at startup, so I suspect that's some of the time being used.

Watched opening of logbook in task manager and noticed gpsgate was loading twice. Uninstalled gpsgate and ran logbook, about 8 sec load time, gps works inside logbook. Suspect gpsgate was eating all my cpu time trying to load twice. Good to go now. Thanks for your help

Interesting! I'll forward this to our technicians...
